Black Magic Social Club

You hear the bass rattling through the brick before you even hit the patio gate on Harrisburg. Black Magic Social Club doesn't hide on the East End block; it sits right there in Houston with a neon sign that buzzes loud against the brick. The door guy takes your cash without looking up and you're stepping straight into a dark room where the walls are covered in local gig posters.

It’s hot as hell inside by midnight. The bar is tiny, so you’re waiting a minute to grab a Lone Star from a bartender who doesn't care about your bad day. People are crammed shoulder to shoulder near the front where the small stage barely gives the punk bands room to breathe. Sound bounces off the concrete floor, but nobody’s complaining when the guitars hit that heavy distortion.

Outside in the gravel lot, it’s easier to catch your breath while somebody’s trying to jump-start a rusted Ford truck near the fence. You’ll hear traffic humming down the boulevard and the faint chime of a pinball machine bleeding through the back door.
